Job Role: Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Heat Pump Trainer Manager
Location: Worcester (Hybrid Working)
Salary: £42,000 – £45,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: Monday to Friday
Working Pattern: Typically 3 days office-based and 2 days working from home, with flexibility to meet business and learner needs.
Role Overview
We are recruiting an experienced and ambitious Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Heat Pump Engineering Curriculum Lead/Trainer Manager to play a key role in developing and growing a specialist engineering apprenticeship division.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced trainer, assessor, curriculum professional or industry specialist looking to take ownership of a growing provision. Initially, the role will focus heavily on curriculum development, programme design, quality improvement and supporting the successful delivery of City & Guilds engineering programmes and apprenticeships.
As the provision grows, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to build, lead and manage their own team, becoming the driving force behind the development of the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump division.
This role would suit someone with strong industry expertise who wants to combine technical knowledge, curriculum leadership and strategic development while helping shape the future workforce within a rapidly expanding sector.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development & Programme Design
- Lead the design, development and implementation of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump training programmes.
- Develop curriculum content aligned to apprenticeship standards and City & Guilds requirements.
- Review and continuously improve programme materials, resources and learner journeys.
- Ensure curriculum delivery reflects current industry legislation, standards and emerging technologies.
- Support the development of innovative and engaging learning solutions.
Quality & Delivery Excellence
- Ensure programmes meet awarding organisation, apprenticeship and quality standards.
- Support outstanding teaching, learning and assessment practice.
- Monitor learner progress, achievement and quality outcomes.
- Contribute to quality assurance processes and continuous improvement activity.
- Support preparation for external audits, inspections and quality reviews.
Learner & Employer Engagement
- Build strong relationships with employers and industry stakeholders.
- Support apprentices to achieve technical competence and industry standards.
- Ensure programmes meet employer needs and workforce requirements.
- Promote positive learner experiences and successful completion outcomes.
Leadership & Growth
- Play a leading role in the growth and future development of the division.
- Support recruitment and onboarding of future delivery staff as the provision expands.
- Develop processes, systems and best practice for future team growth.
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise.
- Contribute to wider business growth and curriculum strategy.
Industry & Technical Expertise
- Provide guidance on:
- Refrigeration systems
- Air conditioning systems
- Heat pump technologies
- Installation and commissioning
- Service and maintenance activities
- Fault diagnosis and repair
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry developments and legislation.
- Embed best practice and current industry standards into programme delivery.
Essential Criteria
- Significant industry experience within:
- Refrigeration
- Air Conditioning
- Heat Pump Engineering
- Relevant industry qualification at Level 3 or above.
- Strong technical knowledge covering installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance and fault diagnosis.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Passion for developing future industry talent.
- Experience supporting learning, coaching, mentoring or workforce development.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Teaching qualification (AET, CET, DET, PGCE or equivalent).
- Assessor qualification (CAVA, TAQA or equivalent).
- F-Gas Category 1 Certification.
- Experience delivering apprenticeships or technical qualifications.
- Experience with City & Guilds delivery.
- Experience developing curriculum and learning resources.
- Leadership or management experience within education, training or engineering.
New to Training?
Applications are welcomed from experienced Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Engineers who may not have worked within education previously.
Occupational competence and technical expertise are valued highly, and support can be provided to develop teaching, coaching and assessment skills through structured training and professional development.
