Job Role: Construction Skills Tutor – Painting & Decorating
Location: HMP Pentonville
Salary: £30,000 per annum + £5,000 London Weighting
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
  
Role Overview
We are recruiting an experienced and engaging Construction Skills Tutor – Painting & Decorating to deliver high-quality vocational training within a custodial education environment at HMP Pentonville.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Painter & Decorator, Painting & Decorating Supervisor, Site Manager, Trade Trainer or Construction Professional looking to move into education and make a genuine difference to people’s lives.
Working with small groups of learners, you will deliver practical Painting & Decorating training, helping individuals develop trade skills, industry knowledge and workplace behaviours that support progression into employment upon release. You will play a key role in helping learners gain confidence, achieve qualifications and develop the skills needed for long-term success.
  
Whether you are already working in education or are looking to transition from industry into training, support will be provided to achieve teaching and assessing qualifications where required.
  
Key Responsibilities
  
Teaching, Learning & Delivery:
· Deliver engaging Painting & Decorating training to prison-based learners.
· Plan and deliver practical vocational sessions aligned to curriculum requirements.
· Adapt teaching methods to meet individual learner needs and abilities.
· Create a positive, inclusive and motivating learning environment.
· Develop learners’ practical trade skills, industry knowledge and employability behaviours.
· Promote safe working practices and high industry standards at all times.
  
Learner Support & Progression:
· Conduct initial and ongoing assessments to support learner progress.
· Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
· Provide constructive feedback, advice and guidance to learners.
· Support learners to achieve recognised qualifications and personal goals.
· Encourage progression into employment, apprenticeships or further learning opportunities.
  
Quality, Compliance & Administration:
· Maintain accurate learner records and assessment documentation.
· Ensure delivery meets awarding body, quality assurance and contractual requirements.
· Contribute to quality improvement and curriculum development activities.
· Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
· Work collaboratively with prison staff, education teams and support services.
  
Essential Criteria:
· Level 2 qualification in Painting & Decorating or a related construction trade.
· Significant occupational experience within Painting & Decorating.
· Strong practical knowledge of decorating techniques, preparation, finishing and site-based best practice.
· Experience training, mentoring, coaching or supporting others within a vocational environment.
· Excellent communication and learner engagement skills.
· Ability to motivate and inspire learners from a range of backgrounds.
· Strong organisational and planning skills.
  
 Desirable Criteria:
· Teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent).
· Assessor qualification (TAQA, CAVA or equivalent).
· Experience delivering vocational qualifications.
· Experience within prison education, adult learning or further education.
· Knowledge of the construction industry and current employer requirements.
