Location: HMP Ranby (Retford, Doncaster & Blyth Area)
Salary: From £30,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
  
Role Overview:

We are recruiting an experienced and motivated Electrical Installation Tutor to join the education team at HMP Ranby.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Electrician, Electrical Supervisor, Electrical Trainer, Electrical Lecturer or Electrical Assessor looking to move away from site-based work and into a rewarding career within education.

As an Electrical Installation Tutor, you will deliver Level 2 Electrical Installation qualifications to small groups of learners, helping them develop practical trade skills, technical knowledge and workplace behaviours that support progression into employment upon release.
You will play a key role in helping learners gain confidence, achieve qualifications and build a positive future through education and vocational training.

Whether you already work in education or are looking to transition from industry into teaching, full support can be provided to gain teaching and assessing qualifications where required.
  
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching, Learning & Delivery

  • Deliver engaging Electrical Installation training and qualifications up to Level 2.
  • Plan and deliver practical and theory-based sessions aligned to curriculum requirements.
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit individual learner needs and abilities.
  • Create a positive, inclusive and motivating learning environment.
  • Develop learners’ practical electrical skills, technical knowledge and employability behaviours.
  • Promote safe working practices and current industry standards at all times.

Learner Support & Progression

  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments to support learner development.
  • Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
  • Provide constructive feedback, advice and guidance.
  • Support learners to achieve qualifications and personal development goals.
  • Encourage progression into employment, apprenticeships and further learning opportunities.
  • Build learner confidence, motivation and resilience.

Quality, Compliance & Administration

  • Maintain accurate learner records and assessment documentation.
  • Ensure delivery meets awarding body, contractual and quality assurance standards.
  • Contribute to quality improvement and curriculum development activities.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Work collaboratively with prison staff, education teams and support services.

Industry & Employability Development

  • Embed employability skills, health & safety and professional behaviours into delivery.
  • Ensure training reflects current electrical industry practices and employer expectations.
  • Support learners to understand workplace standards and career opportunities within the electrical sector.
  • Promote pathways into employment and further vocational development.

  
Essential Criteria:

  • Level 2 qualification in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
  • Significant occupational experience within the electrical industry.
  • Strong practical knowledge of electrical installation, maintenance and industry regulations.
  • Experience training, mentoring, coaching or supporting others within a vocational environment.
  • Excellent communication and learner engagement skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire learners from a range of backgrounds.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.

  
Desirable Criteria:

  • Teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent).
  • Assessor qualification (TAQA, CAVA or equivalent).
  • Experience delivering vocational qualifications or apprenticeships.
  • Experience within prison education, adult learning or further education.
  • Knowledge of current electrical industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience supporting learners with diverse learning needs.
