Job Role: Construction Skills Tutor – Painting & Decorating
Location: HMP Feltham
Salary: From £30,000 per annum + £5,000 London Weighting
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
  
Role Overview
We are recruiting an experienced and passionate Construction Skills Tutor – Painting & Decorating to deliver high-quality vocational training within a custodial education setting at HMP Feltham.
As a Construction Skills – Painting & Decorating Tutor, you will work with small groups of prison-based learners, helping them develop industry-recognised painting and decorating skills, practical trade knowledge and the workplace behaviours needed to secure future employment.
Working within a supportive education team, you will play a key role in helping learners gain confidence, achieve qualifications and develop meaningful skills that support rehabilitation, progression and successful reintegration into the community.
  
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Painting & Decorating professional who is looking to move into education, with training and support available for candidates who do not yet hold a teaching or assessing qualification.
  
Key Responsibilities:
  
Teaching, Learning & Delivery:
  
· Deliver engaging Painting & Decorating training to adult learners.
· Plan and deliver structured lessons aligned to curriculum and qualification requirements.
· Adapt teaching methods to meet individual learner needs and abilities.
· Create a positive, inclusive and motivating learning environment.
· Support learners to develop practical trade skills and industry knowledge.
· Promote safe working practices and professional standards at all times.
  
Learner Support & Progression:
· Conduct initial and ongoing assessments to support learner development.
· Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
· Provide advice, guidance and constructive feedback to learners.
· Support learners to achieve qualifications and personal development goals.
· Encourage confidence, work readiness and progression into employment or further training.
  
Quality, Compliance & Administration:
· Maintain accurate learner records and assessment documentation.
· Ensure delivery meets awarding body, quality assurance and contractual standards.
· Support continuous improvement and quality enhancement activities.
· Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion throughout delivery.
· Work collaboratively with education colleagues and prison staff to maximise learner outcomes.
  
Essential Criteria:
· Level 2 qualification in Painting & Decorating or related construction trade.
· Significant vocational experience within the Painting & Decorating industry.
· Experience delivering training, mentoring, coaching or supporting others in a vocational setting.
· Strong communication and learner engagement skills.
· Ability to motivate and inspire learners from a range of backgrounds.
· Good organisational and administrative skills.
· Commitment to learner achievement and progression.
  
Desirable Criteria:
· Teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent).
· Assessor qualification (TAQA, CAVA or equivalent).
· Experience delivering vocational qualifications within construction trades.
· Experience working within prison education, further education or adult learning.
· Knowledge of current industry standards and construction sector requirements.
  
Training & Development:
· Full support available to achieve a recognised teaching qualification where required.
· Full support available to achieve an assessor qualification.
