Salary: From £30,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
  
Role Overview:

We are recruiting an experienced and passionate Construction Skills Tutor – Plumbing to deliver high-quality vocational training within a custodial education environment at HMP Wayland.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Plumber, Plumbing Supervisor, Site Manager, Plumbing Trainer or Construction Professional looking to move into education and make a genuine difference to people’s lives.
Working with small groups of prison-based learners, you will deliver Plumbing qualifications up to Level 2, helping individuals develop technical trade skills, industry knowledge and workplace behaviours that support progression into employment upon release. You will play a key role in helping learners gain confidence, achieve qualifications and build a positive future through education and skills development.
Whether you are already working in education or are looking to transition from industry into training, support will be provided to achieve teaching and assessing qualifications where required.
  
Key Responsibilities:

Teaching, Learning & Delivery

  • Deliver engaging Plumbing training and qualifications up to Level 2.
  • Plan and deliver practical vocational sessions aligned to curriculum requirements.
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit individual learner needs and abilities.
  • Create a positive, inclusive and motivating learning environment.
  • Develop learners’ practical trade skills, technical knowledge and employability behaviours.
  • Promote safe working practices and professional industry standards at all times.

  
Learner Support & Progression

  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments to support learner development.
  • Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
  • Provide constructive feedback, advice and guidance to learners.
  • Support learners to achieve qualifications and personal development goals.
  • Encourage progression into employment, apprenticeships and further learning opportunities.

Quality, Compliance & Administration

  • Maintain accurate learner records and assessment documentation.
  • Ensure delivery meets awarding body, quality assurance and contractual requirements.
  • Contribute to quality improvement and curriculum development activity.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Work collaboratively with prison staff, education teams and support services.

  
Essential Criteria:

  • Level 2 Plumbing qualification or equivalent vocational qualification.
  • Significant occupational experience within the Plumbing industry.
  • Strong practical knowledge of installation, maintenance, repair and plumbing systems.
  • Experience training, mentoring, coaching or supporting others in a vocational setting.
  • Excellent communication and learner engagement skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire learners from a range of backgrounds.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.

   
Desirable Criteria:

  • Teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent).
  • Assessor qualification (TAQA, CAVA or equivalent).
  • Experience delivering vocational qualifications or apprenticeships.
  • Experience within prison education, further education or adult learning.
  • Knowledge of current construction industry standards and employer expectations.
