Job Role: Quality Improvement Manager (Education)
Location: HMP Brixton
Salary: From £35,000 per annum + £5,000 London Weighting
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
  
Role Overview:
  
We are recruiting an experienced and ambitious Quality Improvement Manager (Education) to support the delivery of outstanding education within a custodial environment at HMP Brixton.
As Quality Improvement Manager (Education), you will work closely with the Education Manager to drive high standards across teaching, learning and assessment, ensuring learners receive an engaging and impactful educational experience that supports rehabilitation, personal development and employability.
  
This is a key leadership role focused on quality improvement, curriculum development and staff performance. You will lead on teaching and learning excellence across Functional Skills, Personal & Social Development and work-based learning programmes, supporting tutors to continuously improve outcomes and achieve ambitious performance targets.

Key Responsibilities:
  
Quality of Teaching, Learning & Assessment
· Lead on the Quality of Teaching, Learning and Assessment (QTLA) strategy across the education provision.
· Drive continuous improvement in teaching, learning and learner outcomes.
· Monitor teaching quality through observations, learning walks, audits and quality reviews.
· Support tutors to develop innovative, engaging and learner-centred delivery approaches.
· Ensure curriculum delivery meets awarding body, inspection and contractual standards.
· Promote outstanding teaching practice and the sharing of best practice across teams.
  
Curriculum Leadership & Development
· Support the Education Manager in the effective management of curriculum delivery.
· Ensure programmes meet the needs of learners, employers and contractual requirements.
· Support curriculum planning and ongoing development across:

• Functional Skills
• Personal & Social Development
• Work-Based Learning Programmes

· Analyse performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
· Contribute to curriculum innovation and service development.
  
Staff Development & Performance Management
· Coach, mentor and support teaching staff to improve performance and learner outcomes.
· Support the development of individual staff performance and CPD plans.
· Conduct observations and provide developmental feedback.
· Promote accountability and continuous improvement across the teaching team.
· Support recruitment, induction and development of new staff members.
  
Quality Assurance & Compliance
· Lead quality assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Support Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and Quality Improvement Planning (QIP) processes.
· Monitor compliance with:

• Ofsted expectations
• Awarding body requirements
• Contractual standards
• Internal quality frameworks

· Maintain accurate quality and performance records.
· Contribute to inspection readiness and quality reviews.
  
Operational Support
· Deputise for the Education Manager when required.
· Support wider operational and curriculum priorities.
· Work collaboratively with prison staff, education teams and external stakeholders.
· Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the provision.
  
Essential Criteria
· Degree-level qualification or relevant professional qualification.
· Recognised teaching qualification.
· Significant teaching experience within Further Education, Adult Learning or Work-Based Learning.
· Experience leading quality improvement activity within an education setting.
· Experience managing curriculum development and change.
· Proven ability to improve learner outcomes through effective teaching and learning strategies.
· Strong knowledge of quality assurance systems and processes.
· Experience supporting and developing teaching staff.
· Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
· Strong understanding of performance management and quality improvement methodologies.
· Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  
Desirable Criteria
· Experience within prison education or secure learning environments.
· Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification.
· Experience leading Ofsted preparation and quality improvement initiatives.
· Knowledge of apprenticeship and work-based learning provision.
· Experience managing multidisciplinary education teams.
