Role Overview
We are recruiting an experienced and ambitious Vocational Curriculum Manager to join the education leadership team at HMP The Mount.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced education leader, Curriculum Manager, Quality Manager or Assistant Education Manager looking to take the next step in their career and play a key role in transforming lives through education.
As Vocational Curriculum Manager, you will support the Education Manager in delivering a high-quality vocational curriculum that equips learners with the skills, confidence and qualifications required to progress into employment and reduce reoffending. You will provide leadership across curriculum delivery, quality improvement, staff development and operational performance, ensuring learners receive an outstanding educational experience.
Working across a diverse vocational curriculum that may include areas such as Motor Mechanics, Art, Painting & Decorating, Music, Media and Personal & Social Development, you will be instrumental in driving learner achievement, teaching excellence and quality outcomes.
  
Key Responsibilities
  
Curriculum Leadership & Operational Management
· Support the Education Manager in the day-to-day leadership of the education provision.
· Lead vocational curriculum delivery, learner engagement and departmental performance.
· Deputise for the Education Manager when required.
· Oversee learner induction, allocation and progression across curriculum areas.
· Develop strong relationships with prison staff, employers, awarding organisations and external stakeholders.
· Ensure vocational programmes meet learner and labour market needs.
  
Quality Improvement & Teaching Excellence
· Lead quality assurance and continuous improvement activities across the vocational curriculum.
· Drive improvements in teaching, learning and assessment standards.
· Manage observation processes, learning walks, quality reviews and curriculum audits.
· Support staff development through coaching, mentoring and performance support.
· Promote innovative and engaging learning approaches that improve learner outcomes.
· Support the development and implementation of Quality Improvement Plans (QIPs).
  
Curriculum Performance & Learner Outcomes
· Drive improvements in learner recruitment, retention, achievement and progression.
· Monitor curriculum performance against KPIs, contractual targets and quality standards.
· Analyse performance data to identify trends and implement improvement plans.
· Support the development of curriculum pathways aligned to employer and industry requirements.
· Work closely with awarding organisations to ensure compliance and high achievement rates.
  
People Leadership & Staff Development
· Line manage and support teaching and support staff.
· Conduct appraisals, probation reviews and performance management activities.
· Coordinate Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities.
· Support recruitment, onboarding and induction processes.
· Promote a positive, inclusive and high-performing team culture.
· Identify succession planning and talent development opportunities.
  
Compliance & Quality Assurance
· Ensure provision meets:
o Ofsted requirements
o Ministry of Justice standards
o Awarding organisation requirements
o Internal quality frameworks
· Contribute to Self-Assessment Reports (SARs) and quality reviews.
· Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
· Ensure compliance with prison security procedures and operational requirements.
· Deliver teaching sessions and curriculum cover where required.
  
Essential Criteria
· Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or equivalent).
· English and Maths qualifications at Level 3 or above.
· Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification or willingness to achieve.
· Significant teaching experience within Further Education, Adult Learning or Vocational Training.
· Experience managing staff and supporting curriculum delivery.
· Proven experience improving quality, learner outcomes and teaching standards.
· Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
· Knowledge of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
· Experience analysing performance data and implementing improvement plans.
· Commitment to using education as a tool for rehabilitation and social mobility.
  
Desirable Criteria
· Level 5 Operations or Departmental Manager qualification.
· Experience working within prison education or adult learning environments.
· Experience leading vocational curriculum areas.
· Experience managing quality assurance and inspection readiness activities.
· Knowledge of funded learning and vocational qualification frameworks.
